Here's what that looks like...
- We are trying to reduce the amount of paper we consume.
- We minimize what gets sent to the landfill. Instead, we reduce, reuse, recycle as much as possible.
- We pack litterless (waste-free) lunches whenever possible.
- We pick up litter when we see it.
- We take care of Jackman's gardens and trees.
- We save our fruit and vegetable scraps for Jackman's garden compost.
- We also participate in Toronto's green bin program for other organic waste.
- We tote reusable water bottles and reusable coffee cups to school (instead of disposables).
- We walk and bike to school and leave the car at home whenever possible.
- We conserve energy by turning of the lights and other electronics.
- Teachers are integrating eco ideas into the curriculum.
- The JETs (Jackman's Eco Team) meets every Wednesday. We work together to get Jackman's eco work done.
- We inspire each other to be 'eco' minded.
- We encourage our community to be 'eco' minded too.
Together, we make a difference. Together we are learning to reduce our impact on the environment. It takes a lot of work to be a Platinum Eco School, but it's worth every effort. We wouldn't want it any other way.
