Bike to School Week (Update)

Jackman never ceases to amaze.   This is our 4th Bike to School Week and our best one yet!   Kids at Jackman LOVE biking and appreciate the benefits of biking to school.


On Monday, we counted 176 bikes and scooters and passed out tons of stickers.   On Tuesday, we had 236  That's our biggest bike week number ever!   These kids enjoyed some tasty homemade muffins.  Check out these bike to school week pics.

Energy Audit

Hey Jackman… did you know that our Eco Team has been secretly monitoring our school’s energy use over the last 4 months?!?!?

We found that many classrooms were doing a good job of keeping their lights and electronics off when not being used… but still, the third floor was having some trouble.

We decided to check again and we noticed the same thing.  So we decided to make some school announcements.  We also left ‘friendly reminder’ notes in some classrooms.  We hoped that would make a difference.

You know what?  It did.   Well, sort of.  We did another check and noticed that many classes were doing better BUT the third floor still had lights on in many empty rooms.

We wondered why this continues to be a problem.  And soon we realized that third floor students are now eating lunch in their classrooms.  It’s likely that no one has been given the responsibility of turning the lights out.

This is an easy fix... third floor classes can assign a student to be the ‘lights off’ monitor (and lunch supervisors can double-check). 

By working together, we can make a difference in our energy behaviour.    WE can do this, Jackman!

Bike To School Week

There’s nothing better than biking to school!  It’s lots of fun!  It’s great exercise!   And best of all, it’s an eco-friendly way to get around the community! So, grab your bike, scooter or skateboard and participate in these Bike-To-School Week activities - May 28 - June 1, 2018

Monday	Stickers!  Bike to school on Monday morning and get a cool bike sticker.  Then everyone will know that you LOVE biking!
Tuesday	Breakfast!  Bike to school on Tuesday morning and enjoy a tasty, homemade mini-muffin.  Biking and baking… a great way to start your day!
Wednesday	Decorate!  Bike to school on Wednesday morning and make your bicycle helmet look cool.  Come early so you have enough time to decorate your helmet.
Thursday	Art!  Bike to school on Thursday morning and help us create a BIG bike painting.  This painting will be displayed outside our school to remind everyone in our community to bike more often.
Friday	Prizes!  Are you feeling lucky?  Bike to school on Friday morning and enter a draw to win some cool bike prizes.  Good luck!
